Lot 1695a Third Reich Cavalry Etched NCO Sword
Third Reich era German M1890 NCO Sword with Scabbard. Features a 34 1/2" nickel plated single edge slightly curved blade, flat spine and single fuller on each side. The ''Dove Head'' hilt is steel and the wooden grip is overlaid in black celluloid and inlaid with twisted brass wire. "P" knuckle-guard and langets. Marked with a knights helmet and the WKC logo of Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie. on ricasso. Original leather washer in place. Both sides of the upper blade has 14 1/2" etched panels. The obverse blade features a etched floral and geometric motif on light gray frosted background flanking a central light gray frosted panel with the personalization, “Kavallerie Regiment 3" in raised gothic letters, a spread winged NSDAP eagle. German helmet with crossed rifles. The reverse blade features a matching floral and geometric motif flanking a central etch on a central light gray frosted panel with closed-wing Heer eagle, a German helmet with crossed swords and a motif of helmeted mounted riders conducting a mounted Cavalry charge. The etched panels are perfect with no wear, speckling or darkening. The spine above the panels are etched with laurel leafs. the German Kavallerie-Regiment 3 (Cavalry Regiment 3), which was stationed in Göttingen. This regiment was part of the German Army and was active during the 1930s and early 1940s. As part of the 1st cavalry brigade it took part of in the French and Polish campaigns and also saw action in the Low Countries before heading east as part of Operation Barbarossa in Russia. Later the three cavalry regiments of Army Groups North, South, and Center, including the 3rd regiment were reorganized into two cavalry brigades, the 3rd and the 4th. These two brigades, together with the 1st Hungarian Cavalry Division, formed the 1st Cavalry Corps. The blade is bright with no damage, the raised parts of the etchings are finished in nitre blue, feint. Overall very good condition with the exception of some of the wire on the grip is loose. Scabbard is dent free.
